Trimble recently introduced its new compact, high-precision Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) board named the Trimble® UAS1. Specifically designed for unmanned aerial systems (UAS), this new GNSS board makes it easy to add satellite-based positioning. Featuring simple connectivity and configuration, this new multi-frequency board also offers the ability to upgrade its capabilities using rugged connectors and the manufacturer’s user-friendly software interface.

Incorporating the latest Trimble Maxwell™ technology, this 336 channel GNSS engine can track L1/L2 frequencies from the GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou constellations to produce the quickest and most reliable real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning at centimetre-level. As the number of satellites in the constellations grow, the UAS1 is ready to take advantage of the additional signals.

For unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned aerial systems not requiring centimeter-level accuracy, the UAS1 encompasses an advanced Kalman which delivers high accuracy GNSS, DGNSS positions in the most challenging environments.

The compact Trimble® UAS1 board includes a wide range of receiver capabilities ranging from high-accuracy GPS only to full GNSS features for positioning. Its features and firmware options are password upgradeable, supporting additional functionality as needed. Fault Detection and Exclusion (FDE) and Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (RAIM) are also supported by the receiver. Also, an RF Spectrum Monitoring and Analysis tool is embedded in the receiver, allowing system integrators to detect interference.

Designed with rugged dependability and easy integration in mind, the Trimble UAS1’s Remote Network Driver Interface Specification (RNDIS) enables manufacturers to access the web user interface via a USB connector. Similar to other embedded boards and modules from Trimble, integration is simplified, and development times reduced through simple software commands.

“UAS manufacturers demand high performance, reliability and high-quality customized support for their positioning solutions. The new UAS1 board delivers the latest GNSS technology in an easy-to-integrate form factor for UAV / UAS applications.” – Thomas Utzmeier, general manager of Trimble’s Integrated Technologies Division

Key Features Include:

  • Compact design for UAV/UAS applications
  • Rugged latched connector for I/O
  • Power input range 7 – 60VDC
  • Industry standard camera hot-shoe circuit
  • LED indicators for status checks
  • EMI shielded GNSS module
  • CAN bus integrated
  • Trimble RTX and OmniSTARSupport
  • Advanced RF spectrummonitoring
  • Centimeter-level positionaccuracy
  • Data logging enabled
  • Flexible interfacing over RS232and USB

Other features of the Trimble® UAS1 include the integration of Trimble RTX® technology, output to RINEX, a common post-processing format and an industry-standard camera hot-shoe interface to geo-position photographs and LED indicators for status checks.

This new board also supports Trimble CenterPoint® RTX GNSS corrections, enabling users to achieve better than 2 centimeter horizontal and 5-centimeter vertical accuracy. This precise and robust positioning is achieved without the use of a base station via a subscription service.

Ideal for UAS applications which require centimetre accuracy in a compact package, the Trimble UAS1 has been manufactured and tested to Trimble’s exacting standards.

High-precision GNSS signal protection from electromagnetic interference (EMI) on the host UAS platform is enabled through use of a full metal shield (71mm x 46mm x 13mm form factor). Allowing for easy setup, configuration and installation in a customers’ system, its receiver is FCC and CE certified, speeding compliance and reducing development times.

The UAS/UAV GNSS receiver board is available through Blue Planet Geomatics. If you would like more information or pricing about it, please contact us at 1-519-821-3661
